​Le Numéro Stav (2022)

When you close your eyes and imagine a circus artist --
​What do they look like? What can their bodies do?
Gender is a construct. Maybe circus is, too.

An act that grew from the thesis of Stav's Masters degree in Contemporary Circus titled "The Barbette Project": a devised performance that explores the true story of Barbette, star gender-bending circus artist of the early 20th century.

Using the tools they developed for "The Barbette Project", Le Numéro Stav was devised and filmed (see below) during an R&D period in Fall 2021, then launched alongside other acts in the project in early 2022.

The act premiered for a live audience at Bristol Pride's Circus Night, Circomedia, July 2022.
